For Automotive Components
Para aramid fibers bring together temperature resistance, strength, reinforcement and other properties, which help improve filters, belts, gaskets and other automotive components. It helps improve the interior safety, performance and durability for a wide variety of vehicles, from passenger cars and light trucks to professional race cars.
STRONGER automotive Hoses & Belts REINFORCEMENTS
Para aramidis available in several different product forms making it suitable for a wide range of automotive applications:
• Para aramid fiber is made into a continuous-filament yarn available in a broad range of deniers, woven into fabrics or twisted, and plied into tire cords
• Para aramid staple and short cuts are short-fiber versions suitable for textile applications, and for reinforcement of thermoplastic and thermoset matrices
Automotive Belts
The high modulus and abrasion resistance of para aramid help belts retain their original shape and tension over the millions of revolutions they go through over the lifespan of a vehicle.
Automotive Hoses
Using knitted or braided aramid fiber to reinforce radiator, transmission, and turbocharger hoses helps make them strong and light. For it is not only stronger than other materials typically used in high-pressure hoses; it has excellent thermal stability and chemical resistance as well.
Brake pads, clutches and gaskets
Thanks to its chemical and thermal stability, Para aramid pulp reinforcement helps make gaskets strong and durable. It is also effective in clutches, which are subject to severe frictional stress. Tests have shown that clutch linings with para aramid do not require service or replacement as often as standard clutch linings.Brake pads made of para aramid pulp are better equipped to withstand the wear and tear that friction creates. With their enhanced thermal stability and inherent abrasion resistance, reinforced brake pads of para aramid are designed for long life and safe, quiet braking.
Composites
Para aramid is replacing fiberglass-reinforced plastic in NASCAR race car bodies and air dams because it helps to prevent the car body from shattering or leaving hazardous debris on the track after a crash. Also, they are used in the HANS Device — the life-saving restraining linkage that supports the driver’s head and neck — that helps absorb impact forces that are strong enough to damage neck vertebrae.
Tires
Tires operate in challenging environments. They must provide traction, wear and handling while simultaneously providing reduced rolling resistance for improved fuel economy. When applied in overlays or cap plies, para aramid fibers help give the tire and tire belt package excellent dimensional stability, even at high temperatures/high speeds, essential in high performance tires.
Para aramid also help offer superb puncture, abrasion and tear resistance. Other benefits include a quieter ride and a reduction in rotational weight, which can help decrease engine strain, and typically results in improved fuel efficiency.
Vehicle armor
Para aramid provides an effective, lightweight armor solution for vehicles that helps protect against ballistic attack, allowing cars and light trucks to retain most of their original handling characteristics, while stopping multiple rounds.
